mash-up mania with the hood internet.

4 Aug

It’s no secret that I LOVE mash-ups. My obsession began in 2007 when I started listening to Girl Talk while living in my sorority house in college. I love the innovation and creativity that stems from something that already exists (and I am equally interested in the legal issues pertaining to copyright infringement and where “creation” begins and ends). I’ve seen Girl Talk live three times (in Barcelona, at Pomona’s Fox Theater, and at The Treasure Island Music Festival…all in 2009).

Last night, Armita and Whitney joined me for a show by another mash-up artist I like, The Hood Internet at the Central Social Aid and Pleasure Club. These two Chicago-based guys create mash-ups of hip hop songs with indie rock beats. The show was a great time – The Hood Internet’s set was incredible, colorful, and energetic, and the opening acts (Tanya Morgan + Psalm One) were pretty decent as well.

Here are some of my favorite tracks from The Hood Internet:

It was a fabulous show and I’m SO glad we went. Well worth the $15.
